Why I don't want an i-phone!

Ironic isn't it, that the main raeson for buying a phone, i.e. to make phone calls, doesn't work properly on the new i-phone!
This is a disaster for two reasons. First it set back Apple's reputation considerably and will inevitably lose it customers. Okay, they will replace those customers in time and no doubt gain a lot more with whatever gadgets we don't yet know we want that are in development for the future. However, what really beggars belief is disaster area number two - why didn't they test it properly first? Surely Jobs' development people's budget stretches to a few sim cards? They wouldn't even had to have made a lot of calls to discover what appears to be a massive design error. It's all very well being able to get Facebook, Twitter et al and to play nonsense games while listening to Take That but surely the whole raison d'etre of a mobile phone is to make phone calls?
Now to the point. Apart from the serious design fault in the new i-phone, the other reason I do not want an i-phone is the fact that what I want from a phone is to be able to make phone calls and not amuse myself ruining my eyesight whilst developing RSI playing childrens' games. As for apps for this and apps for that, do we really need them. Do our lives have such a void or are we so busy that we can't find the nearest off-licence or train station without an i-phone? Hmm! Personally, and call me old-fashioned if you like, I would much rather read a good book! I am sure there are many out there just like me.
