A quick film interlude
The latest blockbuster to be released in the UK from the other side of the pond is a $100m smash. But this is not a Bruce Hard or a Tarantino Gore-fest but a $15,000 home made video that has taken $100m! Paranormal Activity has more than trumped the Blair Witch Project and other low budget movies and will, or probably should, make the big studios stop and think about their business models. A cast and crew of unknowns have achieved the impossible dream. They have done so by producing a movie that has touched a nerve with the viewing public. Okay, the distributors have made clever use of viral marketing but nevertheless, it proves a point that if the public want to be entertained (even if as in this case it is by having the fear of God rammed through their eyeballs) then all it takes is a good story and a bit of creativity and imagination. Never mind the quality, feel the width! When any half clever geek with a bit of cash can go to his local store and buy a decent quality digital camera a lap top and bit of editing software for a few thousand, how soon will it be before this sort of production becomes the norm?
